You shall be called…the Rock. (Not Dwayne Johnson.) These are some of the first words Peter heard from Jesus.
He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter). (John 1:42 ESV)
(Peter means rock.)
Been thinking about that exchange the last several days. Jesus redefined Simon…not just a new name…but as we study what happened from that point forward, He pointed to the person Simon would become.
I’ve wondered what name Jesus would have for me…who am I to become? This isn’t a post about finding the will of God (go here for something on that). It’s about what I’m being shaped to be…I am a work in progress…but I have some of the answers now. They are answers we can all take comfort in because as a follower of Christ…we’re all included…
I am loved – 1 John 3:3
I am a saint – Ephesians 1:1
I am accepted – Ephesians 1:6
I am complete in Christ – Colossians 2:10
I am redeemed and forgiven – Colossians 1:14
I am blameless and free from accusation – Colossians 1:22
I am free from condemnation – Romans 8:1
I am righteous – Romans 5:1
I am a joint heir with Christ – Romans 8:17
I am victorious through Christ – 1 Corinthians 15:57
I am a new creation – 2 Corinthians 5:17
I am God’s workmanship – Ephesians 2:10
There are so many more verses that tell us who we are in Him – (and there are plenty of lists that you can find with more of those verses).
The enemy tears at us, he tries to drag us away from the truth…the Truth. To our detriment, we let him succeed. We hold on to the lies, we hold them close…and distance ourselves from who we really are…His!
We are all being molded in the Potter’s hands. We can trust the One who gave His life so we could be His. We need to arm ourselves for the attacks of the enemy…arm ourselves with His Truth…His Word. This is the foundation from which we are to face the world, following Him, letting His power work through us.
Who are we? We are His…overcomers, conquerors, saved, whole, and living life eternally with our Lord and Savior.
